Delta State University has received a $100,000 grant to establish an E-Learning Center to serve Delta area schools.
Dr. Lynn House, Dean of the College of Education, will coordinate the program for the school.

«We are trying to address the teacher shortage in the Delta,» House said Tuesday. «There are fewer people going into education these days, especially in certain fields.»
House noted the sciences, mathematics and foreign language as areas in which it is hard to find teachers.
«This program will be offered to schools within the Delta area consortium which has 34 members,» she said.
«Some have a physics teacher but not a Spanish teacher,» House said. «Some have a Spanish teacher but not a physics teacher. Others have a need in all of those areas.»

La nueva era de la información y la comunicación ha forzado el cambio de los ambientes rutinarios de aprendizaje por otros caracterizados por el cambio y la innovación constantes. El nuevo milenio demanda habilidades o competencias en el manejo de la información por lo tanto los procesos de adquisición, selección y utilización de la misma, así como la creación de nuevos conocimientos, requieren la utilización de herramientas que permitan energizar el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Normas de participación
Pueden participar escuelas, instituciones educativas y organizaciones de Europa que desarrollen educación primaria, secundaria o formación de profesores y los profesores empleados por ellas o que trabajen para ellas.

Las instituciones educativas municipales o regionales sólo pueden optar al premio especial establecido para ellas.

Los proveedores de contenidos a nivel nacional o similares, o los proyectos dirigidos por estas instituciones u organizaciones no pueden participar. Tampoco pueden hacerlo proyectos que fueron premiados con alguno de los Premios eLearning en los años anteriores, ni los proyectos que sean parte de European Schoolnet (EUN) o que son presentados de forma regular desde el servidor de EUN.

Los proyectos que hayan sido premiados o recibido subvención (por ejemplo Comenius), o se hayan beneficiado de algún patrocinador sí pueden participar. Este hecho debe ser declarado en la descipción del proyecto que se envía.

Una propuesta puede involucrar a parte de una escuela, un conjunto de recursos, un proyecto o una actividad. Los contenidos visibles de esa propuesta deben de haber sido creados en su mayor parte después del 1 de enero de 2004.

DE ASIA A LAS AMÉRICAS: LOS IMPACTOS DE LAS NUEVAS TECNOLOGÍAS

La inclusión digital y los cambios que ésta genera en diversos ámbitos del quehacer individual y social es una preocupación que no reconoce fronteras. Políticos, empresarios, académicos y ciudadanos están en búsqueda de conocimiento actualizado que permita saber cómo las nuevas tecnologías están impactando e influirán a futuro a las sociedades y las personas.

Dos investigaciones a nivel mundial están abocadas a analizar y comparar la realidad de Internet en 17 países, de diversas características. Se trata del Proyecto WIP -World Internet Project-, que examina las repercusiones de las nuevas tecnologías en la vida cotidiana y que es ejecutado por el Center of Digital Future, de la USC Annenberg School for Communication. Y el Proyecto BIT -Business Internet Project-, centrado en los ámbitos empresariales y económicos, y liderado por la Escuela de Negocios de la UCLA.

Ambos estudios de origen académico, son liderados y ejecutados por universidades de reconocido prestigio internacional, entre las cuales se encuentran las de Oxford, Toyo, Navarra, UCLA y el Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media. En Chile, los responsables de esta iniciativa son la Facultad de Comunicaciones, la Escuela de Ingeniería y el Instituto de Sociología de la Universidad Católica, en conjunto con la Cámara de Comercio de Santiago. Six major projects, which aim to transform aspects of the student experience through e-learning, have been allocated £6 million by the Scottish Funding Councils for Further and Higher Education (SFC), it has been announced.

The FE and HE projects include the development of materials so that Higher National (HN), modern apprenticeship and degree courses can be delivered in new ways; the use of new approaches to assessment by higher education institutions (HEIs), and FE colleges and HEIs working together to ease the transition between sectors for learners.

The projects will be run by several FE Colleges and HEIs until summer 2007, and will test a key conclusion of the SFC joint e-learning report: that e-learning can produce efficiency gains for institutions by replacing existing processes. (leer más…)

e-Learning in Small and Medium Enterprises is still at an embryonic stage. A complete Survey analyses the reasons why and gives plenty of recommendations on how to improve the situation.

In September 2003, the Directorate General Education and Culture of the European Commission selected Unisys and its partner EuroPACE to lead a strategic study on e-learning in continuing vocational training, particularly at the workplace, with focus on Small and Medium Enterprises. A survey was launched to get a direct feedback from European SMEs, assessing with them the opportunities e-learning could bring as well as the barriers they encountered for and during implementation.

According to the Surveys’ results, while most corporate companies have integrated e-learning in their training portfolio, SMEs are lagging behind. This article summarizes the major needs identified affecting SMEs. The list of needs is also a catalogue of opportunities for e-Learning providers, and a list of aspects to be identified and improved for SME managers.

Timeliness
SMEs devote little time to the learning activity: they are often guided by the daily pressure of the business, and a need for training will only be identified when a problem arises: therefore, SMEs will look for a quick fix, allowing to proceed with the business: they need just in time, bite-sized, to the point learning.
