Delta State University has received a $100,000 grant to establish an E-Learning Center to serve Delta area schools.
Dr. Lynn House, Dean of the College of Education, will coordinate the program for the school.
«We are trying to address the teacher shortage in the Delta,» House said Tuesday. «There are fewer people going into education these days, especially in certain fields.»
House noted the sciences, mathematics and foreign language as areas in which it is hard to find teachers.
«This program will be offered to schools within the Delta area consortium which has 34 members,» she said.
«Some have a physics teacher but not a Spanish teacher,» House said. «Some have a Spanish teacher but not a physics teacher. Others have a need in all of those areas.»
Many districts have used distance learning technology with varied success, House said. (leer más…)
