[5 enlaces][5 links] Grockit: MMOL – MMOLG – MMPOL Massively Multi Player Online Learning Game

junio 1, 2008

Grockit. think. learn. be.

2) MMOL (Massively Multiplayer Online Learning)
…en Corporate eLearning
3) MMPOL (Massive Multi-Player Online Learning)…en FredCavazza

1) Grockit Raises Series B en Grockit:
We recently raised our Series B financing. We couldn’t be more excited about the firms we are working with. The press release is below.

Grockit, a San Francisco Learning 2.0 Start-Up has raised its Series B financing. Integral Capital Partners lead the $8M round with Benchmark Capital, who lead their Series A, participating as well. Grockit is creating a MMOLG (Massively Multi Player Online Learning Game) where people can connect to learn from each other. The company was founded by Farbood Nivi, a long time teacher, and Michael Buffington, a well known Rails developer. Grockit will use the latest financing to expand their development team and they plan to launch their first product this fall.

2) Grockit Gets $8 Million More For Mysterious Learning Game
en Techcrunch:
We don’t know much about Grockit. The company is creating a new way to get people to learn online, and has spent the last year working away in stealth mode. Whatever it is, it’s apparently impressing investors: Grockit just raised $8 million in Series B funding from Integral Capital and Benchmark Capital, bringing its total to $10.7 million – impressive for a product that has yet to see the light of day.

Summer time is great. July is awesome because it’s time to hit the beach and chill out for a while. But that also means disconnecting from the digital world for a while and missing out on good stuff. Here’s is the first identified «I can’t believe I missed this» casualty from the Summer of 07:
TechCrunch reporting on Grockit raises cash, prepares «Massively Multiplayer Online Learning» product.

I remember reading about Grockit when it first appeared. And I do remember thinking how short-sited to build all that infrastructure yet deliver only ONE type of content…GMAT testing prep.

Transculturalidad y Diferencia: eLearning Papers nº 7 (2008). Aprendizaje e interculturalidad

marzo 6, 2008

«no una imagen justa, sino justamente una imagen»
Godard

Solstice conference 2008. eLearning

diciembre 21, 2007

Thursday 5th June 2008, Edge Hill University,UK

The SOLSTICE Centre for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) at Edge Hill University is pleased to announce its 3rd international conference.

Building on the success of the 2007 conference, which attracted over 200 delegates from across the UK and as far away as Russia and New Zealand, the 2008 conference will focus on the relationships between research, innovation, and development. There will be a distinct spotlight on the concepts of learning environments and their elearning components – as they exist now, and as they might transpire as time progresses – to respond to some compelling and perhaps pressing questions:

  • What is informing our current and future conceptions of elearning and learning environments?
  • What theoretical and evidence bases are structuring our thinking, policy making and implementations?
  • How might we juxtapose the physical, virtual and cognitive dimensions of learning environments?
  • On what bases might we predict the learning environments of 2020 for the learners of that point in time?
  • What is the status of the current research agenda and is it robust enough to serve as a foundation for predictions and aspirations?

Listen to comments from the SOLSTICE 2007 Conference >>>

Os podéis inscribir aquí:
http://www.edgehill.ac.uk/Sites/SOLSTICE/Form/Conference/Registration.htm

Educating through videogames – University of Alberta eLearning Conference

agosto 9, 2007

Up- Life in the Video Game Ether, titulado Educating through videogames – University of Alberta eLearning Conference.

(Wii Number

2023 0943 2871 2877)

I am a bit late in posting this blog entry, but wanted to share my experience at the eLearning Conference at the University of Alberta in June of this year. I was invited to be the keynote speaker for the event and was happy to participate as education and games is a «hot button» for me. Here is the presentation I gave (click on the title page below to download):

This is an important topic to me personally for many reasons, the least of which is that so many people, and politicians especially, don’t really understand the medium and paint it in the worst possible light. Call it modern politics or ratings grabber, but it stinks all the same. What many people who are on the «outside» of the video game culture don’t understand is that video games can be an expressive and important medium that rates right up there with the best that other mediums have to offer. And, like every type of expressive medium before it, video games have had to go through a trial by fire of those who are afraid, uninformed and prejudiced against the medium. (leer más…)
