Sclater: Students will communicate outside lessons

The Open University (OU) is to extend its e-learning scheme and introduce real-time forums.

The university has 200,000 students and already uses e-learning tools, but will introduce new technology to allow real-time interaction between students.

‘Most courses have forums, but this system will be for real-time communication rather than forums where people post at different times,’ said Niall Sclater, director of the OU’s virtual learning environment programme.

‘It will allow students to communicate with each other outside of scheduled sessions,’ he said.

Making Online Learning Mandatory

Starting this fall, all students at Northwest State Community College, in Archbold, Ohio, will be required to take at least one online course to graduate.

More than 60 percent of last year’s graduates already took one or more online courses, but administrators and college trustees want all students to be well versed in independent research and discovery — skills that employers demand, they say — and feel that online education is one way to accomplish that.

“Businesses are moving toward online training, and students have to learn to be self-motivated,” said Linda Carr, chief learning officer at the college. “In the workplace, you are responsible for doing what you need to do on your own time.”(leer más…)

Launch of The E-learning Awards 2007

febrero 24, 2007

//www.elearningage.co.uk/graphics/awards.jpg” porque contiene errores.

The 3rd annual E-learning Awards will take place in November 2007 in London.

The primary objective of the E-learning Awards is to recognise real excellence in the e-learning industry. This may be an e-learning programme, project or strategy that is judged to be the best in that category for that year.

The Awards are judged by the eLearning Network, the industry’s foremost e-learning association. Receiving an Award means that an organisation has made more than a positive contribution to clients’ fortunes. They will have created or produced something that will be looked at years later as something that is a benchmark, to which others in the industry can aspire to.

More importantly those that receive the awards will have excelled and will have been recognised in doing so, by the e-learning industry overall.

Award Categories

The 2007 categories are below. You can enter as many categories as you wish. Click on the individual categories for details of their criteria.

Please ensure you have read the Terms and Conditions of entry.
