Family, Friends & Community

Hace unos días hablamos enEuroblog2007: Social Software – A Revolution for Communication? More than half (55%) of all online American youths ages 12-17 use online social networking sites».

Social Networking Websites and Teens: An Overview

1/7/2007 | MemoMemo | Amanda Lenhart, Mary Madden

A social networking site is an online place where a user can create a profile and build a personal network that connects him or her to other users. In the past five years, such sites have rocketed from a niche activity into a phenomenon that engages tens of millions of internet users. More than half (55%) of all online American youths ages 12-17 use online social networking sites, according to a new national survey of teenagers conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

The survey also finds that older teens, particularly girls, are more likely to use these sites. For girls, social networking sites are primarily places to reinforce pre-existing friendships; for boys, the networks also provide opportunities for flirting and making new friends.View PDF of Report

The Grid, the Web and Visual Design for User Interfaces

9:00am 12:30pm in Chepstow Suite, Kensington Close Hotel

This workshop will focus on layout grids and how they can be used for design on the Web. We’ll examine the long-standing principles of this graphic design staple, and discuss why grids can complement — and conflict — with the challenges that designers face when building online interfaces. We’ll roll up our sleeves with their basic building blocks, discuss their development and implementation, and look at how and when to use them, as well as when not to use them.
