Edward Berger

Associate Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
University of Virginia

Edward Berger received his PhD degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1996, and he has been a faculty member in the field for the past 10 years. He started his academic career at the University of Cincinnati where he enjoyed research and teaching success and was recognized with the UC College of Engineering’s highest teaching honor (Professor of the Year) in the 2001-2002 academic year. He is presently associate professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Virginia where he has been podcasting course content since early 2006. He also serves on two committees for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), for vibration and sound and for nanosystems. He has authored over 25 technical publications and secured research funding from the National Science Foundation, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and Sandia National Laboratory. His current technical research focuses on nanoscale material characterization and atomic force microscopy, and his educational interests include instructional design using technology, especially tablet PCs and podcasting.
