The main objective of the proposed collaboration is to contextualize and adapt an existing Stanford University distance-learning program in international security, previously offered to Russian regional universities, for use by journalism students at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Pretoria. We are presented not only with an opportunity to adapt the delivery model and add academic content to fit the interests of our South African colleagues, we also have the added benefit of pursuing a research interest of TUT and Stanford University by exploring how the use of hand-held mobile devices may enhance the experience for learners in a distance-learning milieu.
