agosto 23, 2007

1) A del.icio.us opportunity: bringing tagging inside Blackboard

Speakers:
Malcolm R. Murray, LTT Leader, Durham University

Using custom portal modules and course content, social bookmarks (from the del.icio.us service) were added to Durham’s Blackboard server. Use of one module – designed to deliver news of new developments in e-Learning – was tracked. This enables us to discover how people are using tag clouds. Are they attracted to new entries? Or just the big words? Do they only click once, or again and again? How does this compare with Bb Scholar?

Topics: Innovative Tools for Learners

Target Audience: Blackboard Community System, Blackboard Learning System – Enterprise License, Session Applicable to Users of All Products

2) Connecting at the CORE: Community Online Resources for Engagement — Site Creation and Administration

Speakers:
Jeff Kiska, Blackboard Vista Administrator, Western Carolina University
Kevin Sisson, Manger, Blackboard Vista team, Western Carolina University
Mary Teslow, Assistant Professor, Western Carolina University

Creating community and context have proven essential to the success of online courses. Our CORE sites use Blackboard Vista 4 to move beyond section level engagement. CORE sites are program-based community resource centers that promote curriculum continuity and engagement. We will describe the creation and management of these learning communities, which maximize educational value while minimizing requirements for administrative support. Several examples at the program level as well as specialty applications will be provided.

Topics: Communities

Target Audience: Blackboard Learning System – Vista Enterprise License (Formerly WebCT Vista)

3) Enhancing Community Through Virtual Worlds

Speakers:
Mario Guerra, Faculty Development Specialist, University of Texas at Austin
Carolyn D. Thomas, Blackboard Academic Program Manager, University of Texas at Austin

How can immersive technologies such as Second Life be used to add depth to existing efforts to promote collaboration and communication between educators in the eLearning community? How can we take advantage of the social connections that are created in virtual worlds without the constraints of time and space to promote a greater exchange of ideas? How can we develop spaces in these new worlds for people to interact based on common interests?

Topics: Communities

Target Audience: Blackboard Community System, Blackboard Content System, Blackboard Learning System – Basic License, Blackboard Learning System – CE Basic License (Formerly WebCT Campus Edition Focus License), Blackboard Learning System – CE Enterprise Ltd. License (Formerly WebCT Campus Edition – Institution), Blackboard Learning System – Enterprise License, Blackboard Learning System – Vista Enterprise License (Formerly WebCT Vista), Session Applicable to Users of All Products
